The pangolin, a strange-looking ant-eater, is targeted by poachers. The mammal is considered an ingredient in some traditional Chinese medicine recipes. More recently is seems TV drama series about tomb raiders are to blame: in those TV shows, the pangolin is also used for its apotropaic functions (warding off evil spirits).
